Architectural Design IV
Project
2
Project 2 required us to use all the semesters
knowledge to develop a residential design.
I was to design the dwelling program from Design 3, with
modifications and variances developed
throughout the semester. In addition
I had to add 10 innovative technologies to enhance the
dwelling units. The submission was to include 5 sheets
of drawings, a model of the site at 1/40
scale, a model of one dwelling unit at 1/8 scale, and
a written report.
PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
The first task was to
review the dwelling section of the Design 3 Program
Then I developed a
basic idea of what type of units I would like to design, and how they would
function on the site.
The added requirements
were to include 1 & 2 bedroom units, 3 modular kitchen options, and
handicap accessible
units. The idea for my
program was to create affordable homes & a sense of community, so I used a
traditional style
home. To make all the
homes accessible without needing costly lifts I made single story homes with
simple circulation.
After completing
Assignment 3, I had a review of the applicable building & zoning codes to
develop my final design.
See Assignment 3 - Zoning Review
Assignment 5 introduced
the 3 modular kitchens to the project and the 1/8” scale rough dwelling model
was completed.
See Assignment 5
After this point I
complete my site design and model.
Throughout the project
development I came up with, and implemented the 10 innovations.
