Architectural Design IV

The goals of Architectural Design 4 were to, learn about residential design by

reviewing dwelling paradigm, planning, and practice issues. Develop the ability

to apply basic organization, spatial and structural, principals to the conception

and development of interior and exterior spaces, building elements and

components. To develop the ability to integrate site constraints and place making

goals into the development of the program and design of the project. Make a

professional presentation using drawings, models, and other media to present

and explain your design. Develop and improve skills in residential and commercial

construction demonstrating the following; A mastery of knowledge, techniques,

skills and modern tools of disciplines associated with architectural design; Ability

to apply current knowledge and adapt to emerging applications of math, science,

engineering, and technology; Ability to conduct, analyze, and interpret experiments

and apply results to improve processes.

 

Project 1

Project 1 was to develop a prototype for a 3-bedroom 1,700 SF dwelling with a service life of 500

years. We were also to implement 5 innovative technologies that would improve the welling. This

was a group project, the final submission was to be a report, 5 drawings, and a model.

Project 2

Project 2 was required us to use all the semesters knowledge to develop a residential design. I was

to design the dwelling program from Design 3, with modifications and variances developed

throughout the semester. The submission was to include 5 sheets of drawings, a model of the site

at 1/40 scale, a model of one dwelling unit at 1/8 scale, and a written report. (Click link for Project 2)

 

Assignments 1-8

These assignments were used to individually develop the skilled needed to complete projects 1 & 2.

They included online assignments, written reports about zoning code, model building, and
