Final DesignPhilosophy Statement: The idea of this project was to design a building that captures light within a space and uses it to its full potential. The location of the building was determined by analyzing the existing site, I focused on circulation, use, and the campus timeline. The building is placed along with the other public use and student life buildings, along a common circulation path. I aligned the building on the site square, like the others but kept the sun in mind for where I placed my chapels and light features. I placed the main chapel and the on the Northeast with the light features facing the same way. The light that enters the space is soft and enters mostly from overhead. The meditation chapel is also on the Northeast side but the light features are placed due east to collect morning light. The memorial chapel is on the Southwest side with its light features facing due west to collect the evening light. The hierarchy is established as the main chapel; this is done by the larger space and higher ceilings. There is a datum that runs along the front of the building to keep a clean structured look with the entrance crashing through it. By placing the building square to the site but using the unique light features of the spaces to flow with the sun and nature I have mediated the conflict between the built environment and the natural environment.
