Preliminary Design
Philosophy Statement
The SUNY Farmingdale campus is set at a 45 degree angle
compared to true north. I wanted the light to enter the chapels differently
depending on the time of day. The building’s entrance is orientated to match the
frontality of the other buildings near it. The main
sections of the building however are angled orientated toward the natural
environment.
For the site, I selected a space across from Cutler Hall (light pink box
below). I chose this space due to it being on the student activity side of
campus and near the greenhouse. The building will also help define the edges of
the big circle space.
The pink line shows the circulation.
