Preliminary
Designs
My first
preliminary design had a straight path of circulation but lacked some sex
appeal.
My second preliminary
design was starting to get there with the appearance but still was not oriented
in any way with the sun.
My final
preliminary design was oriented with the sun, had a simple circulation path,
and met all requirements. But this design still needed further design on the aesthetics
and light machines.

Statement
My final design has sex appeal while keeping a simple circulation path. My sacred rooms, which are the most important, are kept to the front where they are easily accessed, while the offices are kept to the back. My datum highlights the straight circulation all the way to the back of the building. The wall that attaches to the main lobby curves from both points of the existing path. This helps my building to front the ellipse where there is a heavy amount of foot traffic. The walls of the chapels and the main sanctuary were all shaped in order to catch the light from the morning until the night. The meditation room has two light cannons that are angled towards East, South East. Meditation is a calming activity in which most people practice in the morning to start the day off right. These light cannons can capture the morning sunlight for this purpose. The memorial chapel is oriented towards the West, South West. There are two light boxes that capture the sunlight as the day comes to a close. Thus being a metaphor for remembering the day and our past. My main chapel is 3/4 of a circle and can grab light from any angle, morning, or night. I have a slit where light can enter from the East and West side and bounce off an interior shelf. Also there is two slots in the roof where light can bounce in an arch form right in and onto the top of the interior ceiling.
