Preliminary Designs

Main Sanctuary, Memorial Side Chapel, Meditation Side Chapel

I used a lot of curved walls to make sure that when the sunlight hit the walls that the sunlight will be reflexed and stretched out to get more out of the sun. I also made sure that the back of the sanctuary was facing south, so that the light was directly hitting those walls and was easily distributed among all the chapels and sanctuary. I made sure that the path of the sun, which was east to west was used completely. All my light tunnels or reflexes where influenced by the suns path.

Site Location

I choose my site locations by evaluating three things circulation, formal space and the sun. My site is near the secondary pedestrian circulation that all the students that dorm walk through. Also, located my building right next to the formal space, to give my building great value and distinguish it has a religious symbol.

Contextual Orientation

Their where few things I had to consider when placing on the sanctuary and chapels. The first thing I had to make sure they are all available for the sun light to hit them directly. So I placed them in a 45 degree angle. Secondly, I made sure that the height of the chapel closest to the east had the lowest elevation, to let the light hit the chapels and sanctuary. The dangers of having my sanctuary and chapels placed in that angle is letting sunlight hit a window and let light hit the ground. However, I made sure I used different mechanism to prohibit that from happening. The rooms where to offices where placed match the building around it. For example, the office rooms followed the directions of all the ministration and educational building around it.

Conceptual Analysis

Circulations always has to be simple, so I made my lobby the center of choosing to going to the sanctuary and the chapels or go to the offices. So has soon as you walk in through the front doors the sanctuary is what going to pop out at you. The sanctuary is the hierarchy and that is displayed from the inside and outside. The hierarchy is displayed from the inside by displaying a wide opening to another door, which is the entrance. Basically it has a different opening than any other room. Also, the light function displayed on the ceiling in the lobby is directly pointing at the sanctuary. The hierarchy is displayed on the outside by being the biggest room, being centered and also connected to the other chapels.
