Conceptual
Ideas
The
main driving ideas for this project were the extensions of the structural
system, while having the super-structure face the water.
In terms of hierarchy, the circular shaped family
room is the conceptual piece which ties both rectangular spaces together.
A useful way in explaining this is
the analogy of a hinge. As a hinge moves, the two plates are allowed to move
freely. The pin in the middle holds the two together and allows for movement.
In relation to the building the plates represent the new and the old, while the
circular room represents the bond between the two.
3-D
Representation
The series of circular lines represents the separate
parts of the structural system.
The
box and circular shapes represent the spaces for the Family Room, Bedroom and
Gym.
At this stage the subtractive process is applied and
the structure can be more easily seen. The large dark green wall is what
directs the building towards the water. The secondary wall which cuts through
the circle is the continuation of the load bearing wall, which is from the main
house. The columns on top of the circle are also the continuation of structure
from the main house.
