PRELIMINARY DESIGNS

v      PHILOSOPHY:

The main idea of this project was to make people look up. I wanted to work with the light to create a feeling that when the public looked up to the ceiling they would feel that something powerful was up there, that by looking at the ceiling they would imagine wonderful things and forget about any problems, or stress.  Also I wanted to be able to have some control over the light coming inside the buildings and for that reason most of my buildings have thicker walls. When I was done with my analysis I realized that the Farmingdale Campus was created in a grid and that the campus pattern was too linear; so with this thought I wanted to keep the same pattern, but also create my building more sun oriented.

To keep the grid pattern I created a datum that would show the pattern of the school. Using this datum I wanted to create not just one building, but different buildings within the datum. Each building would represent a different purpose; the buildings follow the pattern in their own way.  Most of them follow the angle of the sun hitting the Farmingdale campus, using the light from sunrise to sunset. Others just follow the linear pattern of the campus.
