Bridge Design

Project Statement: The purpose of this project is to combine diagrams of existing bridges with moving household items. By combining these ideas, a new bridge is made with moving parts to allow a boat to pass under the bridge.

Inspirations

Preliminary Design

The bridge uses a system of pulleys assisted by a spring and counterweight to lift the drawbridge. The bridge itself is based on the Usk river bridge and inspiration comes from a staple remover.

Revision needed to show the continuity of the arch, in addition to shorten the original arch and help it join the new section.

The final design uses the continuous shape of the arch along with a simplified version of the pulleys used to lower the counterweight and raise the drawbridge
