Contextual Analysis

Narrative:

I have been selected to design a proposed non-denominational chapel located on the campus of SUNY Farmingdale. The College wants this to be a profoundly spiritual place that people of all faiths can worship and reflect on life’s events. The College believes this can be achieved by the creative use of light. The College has outlined a preliminary program that is listed below this list will outline what is the most important space to the least most important. The location of my building is going to be in front of where the old dorms were formally located until they were knocked down. The College instructed me not design the building symmetrical and there giving me full range on this project to do whatever comes to my mind that will give the students a place to go to reflect on their day.

Ranking and Sorting: (In the scale from 1 to 5, (1 being most important) the ranking of spaces is as follows)

1)  Main Sanctuary

2)  Lobby

3)  Meditation Chapel

4)  Memorial Chapel
