-The Expansion Project on Smith House
-Adopting Concepts
Here¡¦s a list of design concepts
that I adopt from the original Architect, and try to develop further on.
¡P
Private
/ Public
Try
to keep spaces in the order by their characteristic
Try
to work out the relations between these two types of area
¡P
Structure
Adopting
the original column order and try to expose as many structure members as
possible such as girder and beams.
¡P
Whiteness
No
other colors should apply to the surface of the building but white.
So
that the visually focus will apply only on the shape/function of the structure.
¡P
Other
divisions
Ø Solid
Wall / Columns
Ø Dark / Bright
Ø Open / Close
Ø Addition / Subtraction
¡§The better design for an expansion project, would be
using an extension that adept the original design.¡¨
North view
This is the Entrance side of
the building which only has limited Windows. It helps to form this side of the
building in a sence of mysterious.
East View
From this
perspective
The add on
spaces are on the left end side. They are all gathering space for most of time.
But one side of wall were applied to the study loft and gym to save some
privicy and solitude.
Accornding to this diagram,
it gives you a sence on division of Open/Public space and Close/Private
space
South View
This
is the back side of the building which is facing the waterfront. All gathering/Open
space are all facing this side. Because its openess, that require many column
and beams to support the structure in order make it fit into the sence of
public.
West View
According
to the dirgram, All additional
spaces have placed on this side of the building. Private section Areas holding
limited windows. Study loft and family room has its own balcony. Also a additional
stairs are connected to the family room due to the far distance from other two
stairway.
