Text Box: Narrative= The Thorpe’s are the ones who purchased the Smith House, and wish to renovate it. It is a family of four, a Father a Mother and two sons. The father is a robotics engineer and wishes the new addition to resemble a robotic arm. He also wants the extension to somewhat resemble the original style of the smith house. He wanted the arm to have at least two joint points, like a shoulder and an elbow. He also wants the main room be in one of the joints looking out towards the sea. He would also like a studio to design in that looks out towards the sea. He works out of home, so family time is very important to him. He wants the family room to be rather large for entertainment. Text Box: OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this project is to create an addition to the Smiths house, while keeping the same techniques that Richard Meier used. The new building will follow the existing buildings contexts such as its structure, open vs. enclosed, and additive vs. subtractive, which will need to blend the new with the existing parts of the house.
