CONTEXTUAL FIT
SMITH HOUSE
Objective: the objective of this project
is to create an addition to the smith’s house. We will be adding a master
suite, a family and an exercise room. The new building will have to match in context
the existing building. Systems such as additive/subtractive and structure will
be necessary to blend both the new and the existing part of the house.
Narrative: for this addition the required
room and spaces are; a master suite, and exercise room, a family room and an
outdoor sitting area. The master bedroom will be at the highest altitude of the
new building and will overlook the rest of the spaces. The shape and the height
of the master bedroom will give the occupant a feeling of hierarchy. The meta
idea for the addition is a sailboat, the new structure will take the shape of a
sailboat and will accommodate all the spaces required. Same type of structure
from the existing building will be part of the new one.
Hierarchy:
out of the four new spaces that I will be designing, the new master
bedroom will be the most important one. This particular space will be a
cylinder shape to be distinguished from the rest of the spaces. This space will
have its own sitting area located on the third floor and will over look the
water.

new building.
