Working Model

The final working model is a design that provided a difficult challenge when faced with adding a moveable opening. The bridge is a cable stay on one end with a cantilever on the other. When adding an opening to a cable stay it must be reinforced in other ways that change the entire original design. This design utilizes a system of gears to retract the roadbed and simultaneously lower a gate to prevent traffic flow while the bridge is open.
