Preliminary Designs

Light played a vital role in the overall design of this project.  Not only was it important to understand the way in which the light traveled throughout

the day and year, but it was also important to design a building that would regulate the light with various methods in which I researched.   This

particular building was oriented in correlation with the sun throughout the day.  The three main sections of the building are positioned so that each

one catches light at different points in the day.  Not only was the position of the building important but the placement of the building on the Farmingdale

campus was also important.  It was positioned in a place that accommodated for extra foot traffic along with vehicular traffic.  It also was designed to

separate, with a datum, both spiritual and administrative aspects just like the campus has a distinctive separation between administrative and academic

functions.  The frontal aspect of the building was positioned toward the south west which faces one of the main circles or formal spaces of the campus.
