Conceptual
Ideas
This is a project in which the Smith family is
looking to add on to their existing house, originally designed by Richard
Meier.
They feel that the space they have available to
them is not enough anymore and are looking to add a few rooms onto the house
while still keeping the Richard Meier feel. They expressed that they are looking to have
a Master bedroom and Master
bathroom added, as well as a
family room, outside gathering area, and a home gym. The most important of these would be
the
family room, followed by the master bedroom and then the outside gathering
area. They usually have people over due
to,
the houses location on the water. The Smith residents are very adamant about
keeping the overall feel of the house for they do
appreciate Meier’s architectural design.

The addition to the house will be attached through
a Lap type of joint and will stay true to the structure of the house as well as
incorporate the subtractive details that Richard
Meier used in the original structure.
It will also tap into the existing circulation
path in which Meier used as well.
The extension on this house is going to be on the
west/South-West part of the house. It will incorporate a new master bedroom,
family room, gym, and an outside gathering area.
