Project #3

Light and Order Project

Non-Denominational Chapel on the campus of SUNY Farmingdale

Diagrams and Philosophy

This project I tried to work the hierarchy of the campus.  Since they seemed to be circles, I worked circles into my project.  I added a circular reflecting pool around my Chapel.  Since my main Chapel is the most important I added a circle to it.  I tried to create an open-air feeling in while still having the building enclosed since it is located in New York and not a warmer climate.

I located the chapel near the newest construction but also near the original buildings to attempt to tie the campus together better.

The Chapel is designed for meditation chapel the to get sun light in the morning, so it gets itŐs light from the east.

The memorial chapel is designed to get sun light in the late afternoon/ early evening right before the sun goes down. So it gets its sun light from the west.

The main chapel is designed to get sun light at all hours of the day (minus the hours that it is dark) so the light cannon on it faces the south.

The outdoor space/ chapel will get direct sun in the morning and at noon, so it is perfect to eat breakfast or lunch out there.

The offices located along the main datum.  They all face in which creates another out door space which is occupied by part of the reflecting pool.
