Project 1
Form and Function
Conceptual Combinations
Objective
The point of this project was to combine an existing function
and form together to form a bridge with both combinations. We took an ordinary
object with a movement and put it together on an existing bridge.
Combining
the function to the existing bridge design transformed the form of the bridge
to allow the function to work properly together with the bridge design.
Changing it to make it adapt the addition of the function.

Attach the movement to one side and as the “screw” part
moves up, it would be unlocked and allow one side to be lifted. |
The pushing of the ends, closing of the span in the
middle. |
The pulling of the movement can pull on the cables, pulling
up on the bridge span upwards. |
|
|
Movement on one side of the cantilever and it would lift
top portion up. |
The lever mechanism can allow the bridge to be lifted up at one end point. |
Movement to lift the tower towards inland, lifting the bridge
together as a whole. |
|
|
This would cause the span to slide inwards inland,
collapsing like an according. |
Using the hinges to lift the arch at the middle point as
it collapses inwards and lifting it. |
The sliding inwards motion would allow the tower to be
lower inland, lifting the cables and the bridge together. |
