Addition to the existing building (Smith House)

Narrative

The Singh family, is a flamboyant couple who owns the current Smith House. They love the current views of the Long Island House that the house offers them and they love to socialize with their friends and family in the current setup. The family room is the most important part of the house for them. They want the views from the family room to be expansive. Having access to a balcony to enjoy the views in summer is also a plus. Besides that, they need a separate private wing for their Master bedroom suite, guest room and some space on the ground level for exercise etc. However, they do not want the existing architectural integrity to be tampered with.

Conceptual Ideas

Preliminary Idea

I started with 2D line drawings using hinge joint to connect with the existing system. Based on the input received; I came up with several variations. After that, I started converting the conceptual ideas into masses and extruding spaces out of it.

Preliminary Transformation

After setting up the masses and connecting new structure with the existing Smith House; you could clearly see the hierarchy. I added staircases and a circular deck which was later changed due to hierarchy (shape) conflict.
